The Four winds, The Four Spirit and The Four Angels
INTRODUCTION
One of the great truths revealed in Scripture is that the earth is not governed by chance, coincidence, or human power alone.
Behind visible events lies an invisible administration.
- Nations rise and fall.
- Revival comes and goes.
- Seasons change unexpectedly.
But the Bible teaches that heaven is actively involved in earthly affairs.
Throughout Scripture we encounter three mysterious expressions:
- the four winds
- the four spirits
- the four angels
These are not disconnected ideas.
They reveal how God governs the earth from heaven.
THE FOUR WINDS
Let us begin in Ezekiel’s vision.
The prophet Ezekiel stands in a valley of dry bones, a picture of complete hopelessness.
God commands:
“Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” — Ezekiel 37:9
The four winds represent movement coming from every direction — north, south, east, and west.
This symbolizes:
- total divine reach
- universal authority
- God moving everywhere at once
When the wind came:
“They lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.”
— Ezekiel 37:10
The wind brought life to the dry bones; and the graveyard became an army. Relating this to our daily life issues, the four winds can bring life to every dry or dead businesses, relationships, careers and marriages or homes.
Meaning of the Four Winds
The four winds symbolize:
- God’s power moving globally
- spiritual stirring
- divine intervention in human history
Jesus later echoed this idea:
“He will gather His elect from the four winds.” — Matthew 24:31
Nothing is outside God’s reach.
THE FOUR SPIRITS
Now we move to Zechariah’s vision.
The prophet Zechariah sees four chariots emerging between mountains.
He asks what they are, and the angel explains:
“These are the four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.” — Zechariah 6:5
They are connected to heavenly commission.
The four spirits represent agents sent from God’s presence to accomplish His will across the earth.
THE FOUR ANGELS
Now we come to the book of Revelation.
The apostle John the Apostle writes:
“I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow.” — Revelation 7:1
Notice the order:
- Four angels
- Holding the four winds
- Preventing their release
This reveals hierarchy.
The winds are restrained or released by angels under God’s command.
Even judgment waits for divine permission.
WHEN THE WINDS BRING LIFE
In Ezekiel 37, the wind restored.
Dry bones lived again.
This shows God’s wind can bring:
- revival
- restoration
- renewal
- awakening
We see the same at Pentecost:
“A sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind…” — Acts 2:2
Wind announced the birth of the church.
When heaven releases wind in mercy, life follows.
WHEN THE WINDS BRING SHAKING
But Scripture also shows another side.
Daniel writes:
“The four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea.”
— Daniel 7:2
The stirred sea produced kingdoms and upheaval.
Here the wind brought instability.
Jeremiah 49:36 shows winds scattering nations in judgment.
The same divine movement can:
- restore
- or shake
The difference lies in God’s purpose.
THE GREAT TRUTH
The four winds, four spirits, and four angels reveal one central message:
God rules the earth completely.
When heaven moves, earth responds.
The same wind that revived dry bones, shook kingdoms, and birthed the church.
