Next Steps After Salvation

A Simple Checklist for New Believers

If you have trusted in Jesus Christ, you have begun a new life.
This checklist is not about earning God’s love, it is about growing in it.

Take these steps one at a time. Growth is a journey, not a race.

1. Be Assured of Your Salvation

Your salvation is based on God’s promise, not your feelings.

Believe God has forgiven you, Trust what Scripture says, even on difficult days

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.” — John 10:28
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1

2. Start Reading the Bible Daily

The Bible is how God speaks, guides, and strengthens you.

Set aside a few minutes each day
Start with any chapter of the Bible
Read slowly and thoughtfully
Ask God to teach you as you read

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

3. Pray Honestly Every Day

Prayer is not a performance; it is a relationship.

Talk to God about your fears, struggles, and needs
Thank Him for saving you
Ask for help and guidance

“Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

4. Turn Away from Sin and Old Patterns

God changes you over time, not overnight.

Be sensitive to what God convicts you about
Confess sin quickly
Turn back to God without shame

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.” — 1 John 1:9

5. Learn Who You Are in Christ

Your identity has changed.

You are forgiven
You are God’s child
You are a new creation

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
“To all who received Him… He gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12

6. Get Baptized

Baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus.

Understand baptism does not save you
Obey Jesus by being baptized
Share your faith publicly

“Repent and be baptized… in the name of Jesus Christ.” — Acts 2:38

7. Connect with Other Believers

You were not meant to walk alone.

Find a Bible-teaching church
Attend regularly
Build relationships with believers

“Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” — Hebrews 10:24–25

8. Expect Growth, Not Perfection

You will still face struggles — and God will still be faithful.

Do not quit when you stumble
Keep turning back to Jesus
Trust God’s ongoing work in you

“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.” — Philippians 1:6

9. Share Your Faith Gently

You don’t need all the answers; just tell what Jesus has done for you.

Share your story when opportunities arise                                                                              Speak with love and humility
Trust God with the results

“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” — Psalm 107:2

Final Encouragement

You are not walking this road alone.

God is with you.
God is for you.
God is at work in you.

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” — Psalm 138:8

One Step at a Time

Don’t rush.
Don’t compare.
Don’t be scared of failure.

Fix your eyes on Jesus and keep walking forward.
