THE BIBLICAL PATH TO TRUE RICHES

God's Principles for Prosperity and Stewardship.

INTRODUCTION

One of the most misunderstood subjects in the Church today is wealth.

Some believe that God does not want His children to prosper.

Others believe that prosperity is the ultimate evidence of God's favor.

The Bible teaches neither extreme.

Throughout Scripture, we discover that God is the source of every good and perfect gift, and He delights in blessing His people. Yet we also learn that riches were never meant to be pursued above God.

Many people spend their lives chasing wealth, while the Bible teaches us to pursue God and His righteousness.

When Solomon stood before God, he did not ask for silver, gold, honor, or the lives of his enemies.

He asked for wisdom to fulfill God's purpose.

God responded:

"Because you have not asked for riches... I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor." — 1 Kings 3:11–13

This reveals one of the greatest principles in Scripture:

When we pursue God's purpose, many blessings follow as additions rather than pursuits.

Biblical principles that position believers to experience God's provision and blessing.

THE FEAR OF THE LORD 

Everything begins here.

"By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life." — Proverbs 22:4

Notice the order.

God did not begin with riches. he began with the fear of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is not terror, it is reverence, it is honoring God so deeply that we desire to please Him in every area of life.

When a person fears God:

  • integrity increases
  • wisdom grows
  • pride decreases
  • obedience becomes natural

The fear of God becomes the foundation upon which lasting blessing is built, without this foundation, wealth often becomes destructive.

SEEKING GOD FIRST 

Jesus declared:

"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." — Matthew 6:33

Notice what Jesus did not say.

He did not say: "Seek riches first."

He did not say: "Seek success first."

He said: Seek God's Kingdom first.

The word "added" is powerful, it means God knows what you need.

When God becomes your priority:

  • life becomes ordered
  • needs are supplied
  • provision follows purpose

The greatest mistake many people make is reversing God's order, they seek additions instead of the One who adds.

WISDOM 

The Bible says:

"Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour." — Proverbs 3:16

God often blesses through wisdom.

Wisdom helps us:

  • make good decisions
  • avoid costly mistakes
  • recognize opportunities
  • steward resources well

Many people pray for money, perhaps we should first pray for wisdom.

Money without wisdom disappears, wisdom often produces lasting increase.

Solomon

When Solomon asked for wisdom instead of wealth, God gave him both.

He pursued purpose, provision followed.

OBEDIENCE 

God told Israel:

"If you diligently obey... all these blessings shall come upon you." — Deuteronomy 28:1–2

Notice that blessings come upon those who walk in obedience.

Obedience aligns us with God's will; God's commands are not restrictions.

They are directions leading us toward blessing.

Example: Isaac

During famine, Isaac obeyed God's instruction to remain in the land.

"Then Isaac sowed... and received in the same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him." — Genesis 26:12

His prosperity followed obedience.

DILIGENCE 

The Bible says:

"The hand of the diligent makes rich." — Proverbs 10:4

God blesses work, prayer is essential, faith is essential, but faith never replaces responsibility.

God often blesses the work of diligent hands; lazy expectations are not biblical faith.

Diligence honors God.

GENEROSITY 

Jesus said:

"Give, and it shall be given unto you." — Luke 6:38

Proverbs adds:

"He who waters will himself be watered." — Proverbs 11:25

God's Kingdom works differently from the world's system.

The world says: Hold tightly.

God says: Give generously.

Generosity demonstrates trust in God's provision.

When we become channels of blessing, God often entrusts us with more to steward.

Example: The Widow of Zarephath

When Elijah asked for bread, the widow gave from her limited supply.

God sustained her household throughout the famine (1 Kings 17:8–16).

Her generosity became the doorway to God's miraculous provision.

RIGHTEOUSNESS 

The Bible declares:

"The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." — Proverbs 10:22

There is a difference between wealth gained by compromise and blessing received from God.

God's blessing:

  • is clean
  • is honorable
  • is lasting
  • does not destroy the soul

Integrity may appear costly in the short term, but it protects what God entrusts to us.

CONTENTMENT 

Paul warns:

"Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation..." — 1 Timothy 6:9

Notice that Scripture does not condemn wealth.

It warns against making wealth our master, God always examines the heart.

  • Why do you want riches?
  • To glorify Him?
  • To serve others?
  • To advance His Kingdom?
  • Or merely to satisfy selfish ambition?

Contentment keeps our hearts free from greed.

IMPORTANT BALANCE

We must teach this truth carefully.

The Bible does not promise that every obedient believer will become materially wealthy.

Nor does it teach that financial prosperity is the measure of spiritual maturity.

Many faithful servants endured hardship while remaining rich in faith.

What Scripture does teach is this:

  • God is our Provider.
  • God blesses faithful stewardship.
  • God honors integrity.
  • God supplies what we need according to His wisdom.

Most importantly, relationship with God is always greater than riches.

WHAT IS TRUE RICHES?

True riches are not measured only by bank accounts.

A person may possess money and yet be spiritually bankrupt.

Biblical riches include:

  • Peace
  • Wisdom
  • Godly relationships
  • Purpose
  • Joy
  • Contentment
  • Eternal treasure
  • Material provision entrusted for His glory.

Jesus asked:

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" — Mark 8:36

The richest person is the one who possesses Christ.

God is not opposed to blessing His children.

But He desires that blessings flow from a life aligned with Him.

  • If we fear Him...
  • Seek Him first...
  • Walk in wisdom...
  • Live obediently...
  • Work diligently...
  • Give generously...
  • Walk in integrity...
  • And guard our hearts...

We position ourselves to experience His faithful provision according to His perfect will.

When your life is aligned with God, His provision follows His purpose. But when provision becomes your pursuit, you risk losing sight of the One who provides.
