THE 1,260 DAYS OF AFFLICTION
God's Prophetic Timeline after Rapture
One of the greatest mistakes people make when studying Bible prophecy is becoming so fascinated with the timeline that they miss the purpose behind it.
God never revealed prophecy merely to satisfy our curiosity.
He revealed it to prepare His people.
Jesus Himself said:
"Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." — Matthew 24:42
Throughout both Daniel and Revelation, one prophetic period appears repeatedly.
It is: 1,260 days.
This period appears again... and again... and again.
This repetition tells us something important.
Whenever God repeats something, He wants us to pay attention.
We shall examine:
- Why this period appears repeatedly.
- What the Bible clearly teaches.
- What remains uncertain.
- Most importantly...
- How we should prepare for what is coming.
WHY DOES GOD REPEAT THE 1,260 DAYS?
The first principle of Bible interpretation is this:
Repetition emphasizes importance.
The Holy Spirit intentionally repeats this period throughout prophecy.
THE TWO WITNESSES: Revelation 11:3
"I will give power unto my two witnesses..."
For 1,260 days they proclaim God's message. Notice something remarkable.
Even during the darkest period in human history...
God still sends witnesses. Judgment never comes without mercy first.
Before wrath... comes warning. Before judgment... comes invitation.
God always gives humanity an opportunity to repent.
THE WOMAN CLOTHED WITH THE SUN: Revelation 12:6
The woman is preserved in the wilderness for... 1,260 days.
Notice another pattern.
While Satan persecutes... God protects.
The devil may attack...but he cannot destroy those whom God has determined to preserve.
THE REIGN OF THE BEAST
Revelation 13:5
The Beast receives authority... for forty-two months.
Again... 1,260 days.
This teaches something powerful.
Even the Antichrist cannot act outside God's sovereign timetable.
His authority has an expiration date.
God sets the boundaries.
Satan never has unlimited power.
TIME, TIMES AND HALF A TIME
Daniel 7:25, Daniel 12:7, Revelation 12:14
- One year...
- Two years...
- Half a year.
- Three and a half years.
Again...1,260 days.
This repeated prophetic period points to what Jesus called:
"Great Tribulation."
THE SECOND MYSTERY OF THE 1,290 DAYS
Daniel then surprises us - Daniel 12:11
The timeline becomes... 1,290 days.
Thirty days longer. Immediately we ask:
Why?
The Bible does not answer directly.
This is where humility becomes essential.
CERTAINTY
We know:
- The Abomination of Desolation begins the countdown.
- The Great Tribulation lasts 1,260 days.
- The 1,290-day period extends beyond that.
- Daniel later introduces another period...1,335 days.
These are facts stated plainly in Scripture.
WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW
The Bible never says:
"This is exactly what happens during the extra thirty days."
Therefore we must avoid dogmatism.
Instead we consider possibilities.
THE 1,335 DAYS
Daniel adds another number.
1,335 days.
Then he says:
"Blessed is he that waiteth..."
This blessing suggests that by that point God's prophetic purposes have reached another significant stage.
If Christ returned today...
would you be ready?
The greatest preparation for the future is not knowing every prophetic detail.
The greatest preparation is knowing Jesus Christ personally.
For the One who revealed the future is also the One who gave His life so that all who trust in Him might have eternal life.
